Business Owner Insights
Would you give up stability, a good salary and everything familiar… for the uncertainty of starting something new from scratch again?
Would you give up stability, a good salary and everything familiar… for the uncertainty of starting something new from scratch again?
Four Months Ago, I did just that…
I stepped away from a successful business I had helped build as a Partner, Director and Shareholder and swapped that security for the lonely path of a startup founder - again!
Was I nervous? Absolutely. Scared? 100%.
But I knew one thing... that 'passion and desire to succeed' would always outweigh any fear of loss. And that mindset has been key to getting me through those early start-up days.
So, are the decisions paying off?
Well, it’s definitely been a bit of a roller coaster (as expected) but I'm definitely moving forward.
The first new business I started - Your Nursery Tour - creating 3D virtual tours has now completed over 25 projects and we’ve just confirmed our biggest order yet – producing virtual tours for a nursery group with seven nursery settings across the Midlands. I’ll admit… there was a little happy dance when that email landed!
Alongside that,
Community Challenge Events is now supporting three brilliant local causes –
Youth Talk,
The Hospice of St Francis, Berkhamsted, and
One YMCA – helping to raise both funds and awareness through creative events.
And I’m also working on some new ideas to support local business owners with events and a different kind of 'support community' to help others thrive and grow.
But perhaps best of all, I’m making time every week to see my mum (who has Alzheimers) for coffee, lunch and reminiscing about old times. Because ultimately, life is all about family and spending time with those close to you.
What have I learned?
👉 Clarity comes from focus.
The more niche your offering, the easier it is to target, position and truly serve the people who need what you do. Depth beats breadth every time.
👉 Be intentional about who you listen to.
There will always be naysayers saying 'It’ll never work' but if you replace that thinking with a better question: 'What needs to happen to make this work?' – that mindset shift changes everything.
👉 Your environment matters.
Surround yourself with people who lift you up and fuel your ambition. Energy is contagious - choose yours wisely.
👉 Start before you’re ready.
In four months, I’ve launched two businesses I wasn’t 'ready' for on paper. Momentum doesn’t come from perfect plans - it comes from taking action, learning fast and adapting as you go.
👉 Embrace failure as tuition.
Failure isn’t fatal - it’s the price of entry for doing meaningful work. I never lose - I either win or learn and every challenge faced is a lesson banked.
👉 And finally… perspective matters.
My wife still thinks I’m crazy - but she supports me anyway (and that support is priceless).
And don't ever forget...
'Fear and opportunity often look the same… it’s just which one you choose to see and focus on that makes the difference'.
Here’s to choosing opportunity.
